Jammu, Nov 26: Three persons, including an infant, were killed and five member of a family were injured in a ‘mysterious’ explosion in their house in Jammu outskirts on Friday morning.
The powerful explosion, in the house of a former Border Security Force (BSF) official, reportedly took place, when some of the family members were fiddling with some explosive device, early this morning, but the injured family members insist it was the LPG cylinder, which bursts after catching fire.
An infant, identified as Lovely, died on the spot and seven others were injured, three of them critically, they said, adding that one of them later succumbed to injuries in a hospital. Another critically wounded villager later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Eyewitnesses said that the explosion took place in the house of Harbans Singh son of Alok Singh of village Kotli Chadka in Bishanah teshsil, at around 8.30 a.m.
The big bang was heard in the radius of around 5 kilometers, creating panic in the area. Villagers rushed to the spot only to fine the family members in poll of blood.
The injured were referred to the GMC hospital, where one of the critically wounded Kulvir Singh succumbed to his wounds.
The injured Dalip Kour wife of Harbans Singh, Harbans Singh son of Lakh Singh, Updesh Kour wife of Avinash Singh, Punit Pal son of Ashwani Singh and Bhupinder Singh. Another injured Avinash Singh son of Harbans Singh succumbed to his injuries at GMC Hospital.
Police said that it has recovered piece of a shell, a hammer and iron pins from the site of the blast. Preliminary investigation reveals that the family members were fiddling with the shell when it exploded.
However, police said that it was investigating the matter. “Who brought the shell in the house is yet to be ascertained”,” police sources said, adding that the injured were in a position to be questioned
