Sources said the apprehensions regarding eruption of protests, particularly after Friday congregation are giving sleepless nights to both civil and police authorities.
“All district administrations have been put on high alert as the administration does not want to take any chance as far as security is concerned as there is every possibility that people would hold massive protests, especially in border districts of Rajouri, Poonch, and highway towns of Banihal in district Ramban,” said official sources.
Sources said that keeping in view massive demonstrations being held in Banihal tehsil and district headquarters in Ramban since last few weeks against innocent killings in Kashmir valley and desecration of The Holy Quran in USA, the district administration have made strict security arrangements with heavy deployment of district police and para-military troopers, as a precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incident on Friday.
They said that a large number of police and CRPF troopers have been deployed in and around the two townships (Ramban and Banihal) to curb any violent incident.
Similarly, massive security arrangements have been made in the border district Poonch which is under grip of tension for over a week now.
Giving details, the Deputy Commissioner, Poonch Kuldeep Raj Khajuria said, “We have been keeping a close watch on the situation and hope that it would improve in next few days. The administration has sought the cooperation of religious heads of the region.”
He however admitted that the administration has deployed enough police personnel in the border town to deal with any eventuality. “The people will be allowed to offer Friday prayers only in their respective localities, amid curfew restrictions in Poonch district. We will also not allow people to assemble at one place. The security agencies have been keeping close eye on the situation and no untoward incident will be allowed to take place,” he added, while talking to Greater Kashmir over phone.
The deputy commissioner of border district Rajouri, Ghulam Mohammed Khawaja said that the administration in the town is fully prepared in case the situation demands so.
He said, “We have met people across the region in various areas, and people are cooperative. They have asked for peaceful protests within the concerned Masjids and no demonstration will be taken out after the Friday prayers.”
“The people today observed complete bandh and it remained peaceful. Though at several places they blocked roads, but they removed obstacles from the roads on the request of administration,” informed the deputy commissioner Rajouri.
The district administration in hilly district Doda has appointed magistrates in sensitive areas like Assar, Bhaderwah, Thathri, and Gandoh with round the clock deployment of police force, informed Deputy Commissioner, Doda, Farooq Khan, while taking to Greater Kashmir.
Even though, the administration has been assured by the religious heads that no untoward incident will take at any place in the district, the administration and police have kept a close vigil in the sensitive areas.
The administration is in continuous touch with the religious leaders and people in general, he said, adding that the situation in the district was peaceful as for now.
The Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Bal Raj Bhagat said that the administration has thrown security blanket on the hilly town, in wake of recently held violent demonstration.
“Police and para-military troopers have been deployed in every nook and corner of the district and no such incident will be allowed to happen.”
“I hope Jammuties will behave as responsible citizens and will not create any problem. The desecration of holy Quran has been widely condemned by every individual of society belonging to all the religions,” the Deputy Commissioner,
He, however, said that the administration has made security arrangements with the deployment of police in the sensitive areas to avoid any untoward incident here.
