Infiltration bid in Poonch Guide killed, militants flee back

Jammu, Aug 8: Foiling an infiltration bid along Line of Control (LoC), army troopers on Sunday afternoon gunned down an alleged guide of the armed intruders at the forward post at Krishna Ghati sector in border Tehsil Mendhar (Poonch), sources said.

The sources said that a group of four heavily armed militants made a failed attempt to infiltrate into this side of the LoC, after army troopers of 5- Maratha Light Infantry manning the forward post Rustam -on a hill- at Krishana Ghati sector (Mendhar) noticing the movement opened fire and forced them to retreat.

On finding the militants climbing the mountain to reach this side, the troopers manning the border out post fired at theme and killed one of them on the spot. “The infiltrating militants also returned fire while fleeing back to Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PAK), leaving behind the body of their accomplice in the land mine area, sources said.

Later, a combing operation was launched by the army all along the LoC. However, no contact was established with the militants as they had gone back. Sources said that the body of slain militant, considered to be the guide of the infiltrating group of militants was recovered by the troopers. However, the identity of the deceases militant was yet to be ascertained.

“A Chinese revolver alongwith magazine and six live bullets were recovered from the possession of the slain guide,” the sources said. The army, as per the sources, has been kept on alert following the foiled infiltration bid.
