‘Disruption of CM’s functions’

Police officials in civvies to identify ‘trouble creators’

Jammu, Dec 2: Police department have selected 60 police officials to keep an eye on the ‘trouble creators’ especially during the functions or public rallies of the chief minister Omar Abdullah, sources said on Thursday.

Sources maintained the decision was taken in wake of the increasing incidents of ‘disruption’ of chief minister’s official functions and public rallies in the state.

“A team of trained police officials in civvies will be deployed at the venues of chief minister’s official functions to prevent such incidents,” said sources.

“These officials will get involved in the gathering and keep an eye on trouble creators with a motive to timely identify such people and avoid the happening of unwanted incidents,” sources disclosed.

They said that police officials would hold regular meetings in the Police Control Room (PCR) at Jammu at 7 a.m to review the sensitivity of the spots and prepare a plan accordingly to handle such elements in gathering.

“Meritorious officials and police constables from various police stations, CID and other wings have included in this special batch and they are being provided special training to prevent such happenings,” informed sources said.

Though senior police officials denied any such move, a police official wishing not to be named said, the need to create a special team of police official was felt with the increasing incidents of disruption of chief minister’s functions.

A suspended constable had hurled a shoe on the Chief Minister on August 15 at Bakshi Stadium when Omar was addressing the people on Independence Day. Similarly, a Panthers Party had disrupted the Chief Minister’s speech at Abtal village in Vijaypur constitutency, about 40 kms away from Jammu when he had shown him black flag to express his resentment over Omar’s remarks on J&K accession with Indian union.
